Saint Raphael-Frejus, France โ Boxer Tommy Fury will follow in Team Ramsayโs London T100 footsteps and take on a triathlon this weekend in the south of France at the new French Riviera T100 Triathlon.
The brother of former world heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, will go one step further than Adam Peaty and the rest of Team Ramsay, who did the Olympic distance (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run) and take on the Professional Triathletes Organisationโs 100km triathlon distance, comprising a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run on Saturday morning [30 August].ย ย
“I’m looking forward to my first T100 race this weekend purely because it’s something new,โ said Fury. โI prepare and train to get ready for fights, and jumping in the water, getting on the bike is completely uncharted territory for me. I want to prove whatever I put my mind to, I can do.โ
Two-time Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty was the top performer for Gordon Ramsayโs team in London, completing the Olympic distance in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 37 seconds. After a few wobbles as he crossed the line, Peaty said: โThat was tough. That was one of the hardest things Iโve ever done โ but 100% would do it again – and I even tried to do a Tommy Fury in the last 100 metres!โ
Fury is no stranger to triathlons having done the Ironman 70.3 triathlon in June 2023 when he finished in 6 hours 27 minutes, but he has recently been focused on the filming for his new BBC documentary called Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury.ย
โI’ve been filming in the days leading up so my training has been limited – we all have other life commitments that come up and could deter us, but I’ve made this commitment to myself and I’m still going to get it done.”ย
Furyโs T100 triathlon challenge will be featured in one of the episodes included in the six-part series, which started on 19 August and offers a raw and real look into the “worst year” of Fury’s life, his battle to prove himself in and out of the ring, his relationship with girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague, and his life behind the scenes.ย
He will start at 1000 on Saturday 30 August, with a swim in sparkling Mediterranean off Saint Raphael, then an 80km bike ride on closed coastal and rural roads in Frรฉjus and Saint-Aygulf, before finishing with a 18km run.ย
The weekend represents the first time T100 and World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) races are happening in the same place and on the same weekend, in what promises to be another big weekend for the sport. With New Zealandโs Hayden Wilde eyeing an extraordinary double, when heโll try and win both the T100 and WTCS sprint distance races (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) on consecutive days. While home favourite, French women Cassandre Beaugrand – who won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic triathlon event – will look to win the WTCS sprint womenโs race in what will be only her second race on home soil since that epic win last summer.
