London, UK – The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and World Triathlon today announced what the Triathlon World Tour brand will look like to fans and athletes when it starts next year as well as the initial 2027 T50 and T100 World Championship Tour calendars.
With the LA28 Olympic qualification cycle entering its most important phase, World Triathlon president Antonio Arimany underlined the importance of changes being made now.
“Our sport was really fragmented from a competition and commercial perspective, which was holding it back,” said Arimany.
“We could have waited until the end of the current Olympic qualification before making the changes, but the changes we’re making were too important to wait. By introducing the Triathlon World Tour now we are creating one unified structure and brand which can unify as many events as possible, creating a win-win situation for all of us in the sport.”

The concept of the Triathlon World Tour was originally announced by the PTO and World Triathlon in December 2025, in response to a fragmented ecosystem in the sport that was holding back growth; a point highlighted by a Deloitte Report commissioned by World Triathlon to assess the sport and reimagine its future and sustainable growth.
The shared ambition of the PTO and World Triathlon is to present a clear and unified competition structure for triathlon that combines the existing T100 Triathlon World Tour and the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), rebranded as the T100 World Championship Tour and T50 World Championship Tour respectively.
The T50 and T100 World Championship Tours will be the highest tier of professional racing on the new Triathlon World Tour and culminate in official World Champions being crowned at World Championship Finals for both distances.
Within the Triathlon World Tour framework, there will also be a tier of events branded ‘Challenger’ that provide a unified qualification pathway and act as the official feeder to the World Championship Tours. This tier will incorporate the former World Triathlon Cups and a number of Challenge Family events acquired by the PTO in February this year.
The ambition is that all events on the Tour will incorporate a broadcast and a professional field as well as mass participation amateur races.
The Triathlon World Tour is being announced in two stages: the initial World Championship tier calendars and brand details shared today; and then the remaining Championship and Challenger events, alongside further details on qualification and prize money – including increased prize money for the T50 World Championship Tour – will be announced at the World Triathlon Congress in Pontevedra in September (23rd).

We know how important this is to help all our stakeholders in the sport, whether that’s the professionals, the fans or the amateurs who want to participate. A key focus for us is securing long term hosting partnerships with iconic locations – due to their Triathlon pedigree, like Yokohama or Hamburg, or simply because of their global status, like Los Angeles or Abu Dhabi. This was a core tenet of the initial T100 strategy, with long term hosts like Singapore, Qatar and San Francisco, so we’re particularly excited to be bringing London, Los Angeles and Rome to the T50 Tour in 2027 – setting the tone for this new future.”
