Saint-Raphaรซl-Frรฉjus, France: New Zealandโ€™s Hayden Wilde will look to complete an incredible double in France this weekend, when he attempts to win both the French Riviera T100 and WTCS French Riviera sprint-distance race back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday.ย

Now fully recovered from his horror bike crash in Japan at the start of May, in which he punctured his lung, broke six ribs and was left needing surgery on his left scapula, Wilde became the London T100 champion in his comeback race on 9 August. Now he will compete over the T100 100km distance (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run) at 0705 on Saturday 30 August and then over the WTCS sprint distance (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) at 1445 on Sunday 31 August.

The USAโ€™s Morgan Pearson is the only other athlete slated to compete in both races of what is a historic first double-header weekend combining WTCS and T100 racing.ย

โ€œI love the pressure. I thrive on it and heading into this weekend Iโ€™ve had an extra 3-4 weeks in the bag [since the London T100], so Iโ€™m really looking forward to bringing it in France,โ€ said the Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist on the Countdown to French Riviera T100 preview show, which is available now to watch on YouTube.ย

French Olympic Champion Cassandre Beaugrand is also excited to be racing on home soil for only the second time since winning her Olympic gold medal in Paris last year when she competes in the WTCS French Riviera on Sunday afternoon at 1630.ย

“Racing a WTCS event in France is always really special, but this one feels extra meaningful to me. I grew up in Antibes, just down the coast from Frรฉjus, so itโ€™s like racing right at home. After such a memorable season and the incredible experience of the Olympics last year, being able to compete in Frejus with friends and family nearby is something Iโ€™m really excited for. And with the WTCS and Professional Triathletes Organisationโ€™s T100 coming together, itโ€™s going to be such an exciting weekend for our sport!” said Beaugrand, who is looking to secure important points to continue the pursuit of her second world title.ย ย

Frรฉdรฉric Masquelier, President of the Estรฉrel Cรดte d’Azur Agglomeration, who are hosting the event this weekend, said:ย

“It is a tremendous honor for our region to host, for the first time in the world, the two major international triathlon circuits โ€“ the T100 and the WTCS โ€“ in the same venue. After London, San Francisco, Singapore and Vancouver, it is here, in Saint-Raphaรซl-Frรฉjus, that the world’s elite will compete. This recognition is part of our proactive policy of hosting sporting events of global renown, in partnership with the PTO and World Triathlon. The best athletes, including several Olympic medalists, will compete on an exceptional course, described by the PTO CEO as โ€˜the most beautiful in the worldโ€™. Between the turquoise sea, the red rocks, the Corniche d’Or and the Estรฉrel massif, our region offers a spectacular setting worthy of the event. This sporting dynamic is also a tremendous lever of attractiveness and cohesion for our urban area.โ€
