Pamplona, Navarra – Spanish star Sara Pérez Sala has shared her excitement for the new T100 course in Pamplona, Navarra, that will host the Spain T100 Triathlon in just over a month’s time – on 23-24 May.

As the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) confirmed the final course details, Sala explained why she is looking forward to the weekend so much.

“I think the most beautiful part of the race will be the swim course in the Alloz Reservoir (above), and the most emotional part will be the run course in Pamplona’s historic old town – in the same place as Sanfermines [the week-long festival in Pamplona that includes the “Running of the Bulls” (encierro)] – full of people cheering.”

“Pamplona is a place where there are a lot of people cheering and the atmosphere is amazing. I think that for people who will race T100 it will be an amazing experience.”

The new one lap 80km bike course is characterised by its rolling terrain and dynamic profile, which features a series of undulating sections across the Basque countryside, with short to medium climbs that require controlled power output and efficient gear management. There are also technical elements that include several sweeping descents and fast corners, where bike handling skills and confidence will play an important role. It should be a real highlight for the professionals and amateurs who take part.

Talking about what it means to her to compete at home and for it to be a women’s race, Sala said:

“In T100 races you have the best athletes in the world. The races are amazing, the circuits are beautiful and sometimes super hard, but there are always people cheering you on. I think that if young girls can see a pro field like T100, racing in their home, it’s inspiring for them to race triathlon or practise sport generally, which is really important for me.”

With only a few places in the 100km amateur event left, this is a must-do event for any triathlete and the perfect way to embrace the rich history, vibrant culture and delicious food of this famous provincial capital. Pamplona is most famous for the San Fermín festival and its Running of the Bulls event in July, which attract global interest. Beyond the festival, the city is known for its rich history, culture, food, beautiful medieval streets and lively squares, like Plaza del Castillo.

The 2026 Spain T100 Triathlon will include the  Spanish Middle Distance National Championships, and is the third race on T100 Tour this season following the Gold Coast and Singapore.

“Pamplona has quickly built an impressive reputation for hosting triathlon events thanks to the success of the Half Triathlon Pamplona-Iruña, and proved its international pedigree by hosting the European Middle Distance Championships last year,” said PTO CEO Sam Renouf. “This convinced us that it would also make a great addition to the T100 Tour. Its beautiful surrounds, culture, food and passionate triathlon community will help create the festival atmosphere we’re building at our events.”

The area has hosted the Half Triathlon Pamplona-Iruña since 2015 and quickly grown into a flagship event in European triathlon. Organised in partnership with the local triathlon clubs Trikideak and Navarra Triathlon Federation, it is also backed by the Pamplona City Council and the Navarra Government, it features a challenging swim in the Alloz Reservoir, followed by a bike leg through the rolling Navarrese countryside, and concluding with a 18km run through Pamplona’s historic old town (picture above), culminating in the iconic Plaza del Castillo.

The Minister of Culture, Sport, and Tourism of the Government of Navarre, Rebeca Esnaola, stated that: “It is an honour for the region of Navarre to host this event and be the Spanish venue for this major event in 2026 and beyond. We are a leading community in the organization of national, international, and world-class sporting events, in which triathlon has always been particularly well received. This year, we were able to enjoy the tenth edition of the European Middle Distance Triathlon, Aquabike, and Aquathlon Championships. Our environment offers the perfect setting for a wide range of sports. Athletes from different disciplines and teams from all over the world have competed on our streets and facilities, always supported by fans who live and breathe sport with great enthusiasm. We are an active community that embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and physical activity and is bidding to be the European Region of Sport in 2027, so hosting this event reaffirms our commitment to promoting sport in our community.”
